My name is Dr Yannis Papadopoulos, I am an NHS psychiatrist and a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist in training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
An important part of my training is completing an infant observation, which involves visiting a family and newborn baby in their home, for an hour, once a week, for the first year of the baby’s life. This will allow me to observe the physical, mental and emotional development of a baby in the first year of their life and the communication between the infant and their parent.
What are the benefits of taking part?
Many families find the experience rewarding. They share that they begin to become more curious and notice different things about their child and their development, prompted by the particular interest of the observer. The observer’s presence is often felt to be a supportive one.
By participating in the observation, you will be also helping me with my training and supporting my development in working therapeutically with adults.
If you are expecting a baby soon and would like to know more about infant observations, please feel free to contact me and, if you would like, we can arrange a chat to discuss this further.
If you know someone who might be interested in knowing more about this offer, please feel free to share this with them.
