The rangers have a whole programme of activities for kids of all ages beginning 29.07.2019, and children can get out in the outdoors, and learn some wilderness skills and more about our local wildlife. Ranger-in-Training and Teen Ranger can be booked in advance from the website, and Mini-rangers is a drop-in session.

Throughout the summer, we have a programme of events based on the famous children’s book The Lost Words, which includes events and activities themed around some of the plants and animals featured in the book.
The Lost Words Trail winds through the house, garden and park – an illustrated trail and activity booklet can be purchased at the Ticket Office or Information centre for £2.50, until Sunday 1 September 2019: Find out more here
At the end of August, we have researchers from the University of Lancaster coming to do activities surrounding birds and birdsong.
In our booked birdsong walks 27 – 29 August 2019, families can learn all about the different birds at Lyme, and have the opportunity to take part in vital research by helping to record their sounds Find out more here.
In addition, we will be holding drop-in craft session on these days where children can create a bird, and connect it to our special sound systems to make it sing! Families with bird walk tickets can join this session for free: Further information can be found here
Also, we are very excited to be hosting a brand new family theatre show in the gardens at Lyme, with three performances each day Tuesday 20 – Saturday 24 August 2019. The Lost Words: Told in Gold is an interactive outdoor event will see participants guided through a mysterious land as The Lost Words are brought to life through song, dance and poetry: Click here for more information
The Lost Words: Told in Gold is also designed as a relaxed performance to be accessible visitors with with visual impairments, SEN or autism. Spoken sections will be performed in Makaton (simplified sign language). £10 children, £14 adult. Family tickets available. Garden entry for non-National Trust members is included in the ticket price.
Finally, throughout the summer, we have sports activities going on most weekdays, with sessions including soft archery, obstacle courses, sports day games, beginner martial arts, Frisbee golf and more.
